Hybrid Marketing

Why would you import the same products that you make?  HERE'S why!

Hybrid marketing refers to the sale by a domestic manufacturer of both imported and domestically made parts.  A common plan is 10% domestic and 90% imported.  The 10% may include parts made to cover late deliveries, or replacement parts.  If you are a domestic manufacturer, you can solve three problems:

First,
domestic users like import prices but have a reluctance to use unknown and "unreachable" suppliers for key parts.  They are concerned about delivery and about quality issues.

Second, the domestic manufacturer has concerns about loss of market share due to lower cost imports.  He has lost job after job, and is frustrated, knowing that something has to give.

Third, the importer could serve more people if he could remove the uncertainty that sometimes accompanies the importation of such parts.

THE PLAN AND THE BENEFIT:

  • FOR THE END USER:  The foundry or machine shop is well qualified to inspect incoming goods.  He can repair parts if necessary, and produce parts if there is a short shipment for any reason.  He guarantees the parts will be there for the user, and that they will be right, for only a little more than straight importing prices (and way less than domestic prices).

  • FOR THE FOUNDRY OR MACHINE SHOP:  With a reliable supplier of imported parts, he can resell these with a margin, regaining market share lost to the overseas suppliers.  He offers unbeatable service and warranties.  He can regain old jobs, and his "capacity" is now many times the original, as he uses his own machinery only a fraction of the time.  On the other hand, the more such jobs he gets, the more local machining he does.

  • FOR THE IMPORTER:   The importer no longer has to worry about a delayed ship or a customs hold.  He has engineered a reliable supply chain  where all contingencies are covered.
