Investment castings, from India, China, and other parts of the Pacific Rim are making inroads into the american market. Why? They are
lower in cost and of high quality. Fine quality products are now available in investment cast steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, high-nickle alloys, and manganese steel. As with domestic sources, these "near
net shape" parts often need no machining, and tooling cost is low, or even zero. |

Note the difference in finish between the sand cast product and the investment cast part on the left. While sand cast steel parts are lower in
cost, for a slightly more, you can have a smooth finish that may help you avoid machining. These particular pieces were made both ways. Machined castings are especially good candidates for investment casting.
